This internal shaft, known as a winze, lies in the most northerly part of the mine just before the workings break into a natural sea cave. It is uncertain as to the depth of the winze but the water level varies over some six meters throughout the summer season. Higher working in the roof have been investigated by use of a maypole and wire ladder but do not appear to connect with other levels.
