The capping of Cross's Shaft.

The engine house contained a thirty inch engine for pumping and winding. The shaft reached a depth of 80 fathoms (480 ft) and having no adit level, the mine flooded to the surface after abandonment. Like many others, the shaft had been used for dumping and had a significant amount of waste oil up to the shaft collar. The oil was only a few feet thick and would have been floating on the water but never the less, a vent was left on the concrete capping to exhaust any gasses.

The whim shaft to the east has also been capped. Both shafts were capped by the Dept of Agriculture fisheries and Forestry
