One of the many large boulders that had fallen to block the shaft is lifted clear. Weighing around one and a half ton, the rock was jammed with many others across the shaft all of which had to be given support be any one could be removed. A total of approximately eighty ton of rock was removed before the construction of new timber platforms in the shaft could take place.
