Above: Nick Cannon and Paul guide the one quarter ton bearing blocks onto the plinths. The
timbers have been coated in grease to preserve them.

Above: With both blocks now in place the slings were removed and the timber spacers
withdrawn. The bearings were then checked for alignment.

Above: The crew from Apex Cranes shackle the axle in preparation for the main lift.
The crane employed weighs in at 48 tonnes and has a jib length of 200 feet fully
extended.
